I just started this novel (about 20 pages in), and I’ve found that some background helps to unravel the strands of some Delany novels.
So far, it doesn’t seem as thick as ‘Dhalgren’ (a monster to slog through: a total immersion is required), or as smooth as ‘Stars in my Pocket Like Grains of Sand’ or the ‘Nevèrÿon’ books. ‘The Einstein Intersection’ seems like Delany showing off his (rather high) intelligence before he quite had the chops (after all, he was only 24 at the time!).

I believe that Joanna Russ, who wrote the excellent feminist science fiction novel ‘The Female Man’ (1970) was a close friend/peer of Samuel R. Delany.

I really recommend anything written by Sofi Oksanen (Finland/Estonia). I’ve read a book of hers called “Stalin’s cows” which was a raw and realistic depiction of a bulimic’s life. Among other she has written “Purge” (2008) which has been celebrated not only in Finland but all over the world. Recently, a film-adaption of it was made. Even though I haven’t read “Purge”, I have only heard good reviews of it, so if you want to read anything written by a Finn check out “Purge”! :)
